Continuing our work in progress of the Asa No Ha Highboy this post looks at the intricate back panel. As this piece references the Asa No Ha pattern often used in George Nakashima’s cabinet work, so too does our back panel mirror the detail of the Highboy’s face. Cropped in tight to the pattern, abstracted from it’s original repetition, the new composition simply focuses on a single intersection. The Frame and rails are cut and jointed. Floating panels, none of them square are cut and offered up to the frame work.
Finally the loose panels are glued up within the framework, and waiting to be fitted to the Cabinet carcasses back rebate.
